For my first post on this new blog I get to share some thoughts about a recent trip I got the privledge of taking. I had the opportunity to attend New York Fashion Week for the first time and let me tell you, it was a time! Honestly, I had the time of my life. I'm from the suburbs of Michigan so this was a slight adjustment from my normal world to say the least. Filled with fashion, friends, and new experiences!
But I did learn quite a bit as well. This trip was a bit of a culture shock. Learning how to humble myself, know where I am in the learning process, and then how to get from where to are to where i need to be in the amount of time aloud to me is probably one of the biggest lessons of them all.

I learned how to take critiques graciously and implement the feedback quickly and efficiently. But I also learned not to give up. If something wasn't working, I needed to keep trying until it did. Keep growing. Keep learning. Keep trying new things. Because how else is one suppose to grow as a person?
I also learned when I make mistakes, to move on and not linger one them, which is something I tend to struggle with. Anyone else out there?

Now to the fashion.

Being around so many fashion people; designers, stylists, photographers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, influencers. All these creative minds all together was truly amazing. I don't have words. Looking around the room was inspiring!
Each show brought the brand's personality to life, thru the venue all the way down to the music. And being a first timer, I drank it all in.
Most shows had an upbeat energy going, the vibe exciting and enticing. My adrenaline was pumping afterwards with my mouth hanging open by the sheer amount of work that just went into that last 20 minutes.

But meeting people was the most fun. Talking to creative geniuses and letting them know you appreciate their work is just enjoyable. Telling people you love what they're wearing, and hearing it back!
I got to know the business side of fashion too. What all goes on behind the curtain. A lot of work, that's what goes on. By a lot of dedicated, talented people.
And I'm not just talking about shows here, I'm talking about parties, photoshoots, guests, influencer reels, the whole world of fashion.
People need a support system to get through this business. Loved ones, people that believe in them. People willing to give you your first shot! It's all about connections.
It's all about people at the end of the day. And how to create something beautiful, and weird, and wonderful.

Fashion is a ruthless yet beautiful business. It is ever changing, and I'm hoping my small part in this world is just beginning.
